Colistinesulfaat-zuur antibioticum, niet alleen lage concentratie bacteriostase, hoge concentratie bacteriedodend, maar bevordert ook de spijsvertering, bevordert de groei, verbetert het voergebruik en vermindert de voer-tot-ei-verhouding.

Het heeft een sterk vermogen om Gram-negatieve bacillen te weerstaan. Het heeft met name specifieke ontwikkelingsblokkerende effecten op Escherichia coli, Salmonella en Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
